Great Point Studios To Open Major Studio in Metro Atlanta

Project Will Increase Great Point’s Presence in One of the Hottest TV/Film Markets in the U.S.

Great Point Studios has announced a major addition to Georgia’s movie production industry. The company is building a new film and television complex in Douglas County, just west of Atlanta. The 500,000 SF, full-service entertainment complex will include 12 large sound stages, office and support space, a back lot, and parking for 400 cars and 100 trucks. It will be outfitted with all of the modern amenities and technological advancements that clients would expect — and even some they may not realize were available.

The anchor tenant will be Lionsgate Studios. Lionsgate is no stranger to Douglas County. Back in 2012, Lionsgate chose the area for principal photography for its mega-hit franchise “The Hunger Games.”

“In response to continued strong demand for our content, we’re pleased to partner with Great Point Studios and The State of Georgia to extend our studio facilities production footprint to metro Atlanta,” said Lionsgate EVP of Television Production, Gary Goodman. “Lionsgate Studios Atlanta becomes our third state-of-the-art production complex with proximity to a major metropolitan area, allowing us to continue to scale our film & television production operations, create hundreds of local jobs and invest in regional economic growth.”

According to the reactive Media Industries Institute at Georgia State University, Georgia is the third-biggest media production center in the U.S., outranked only by Los Angeles and New York. In 2022, the industry directly spent $4.4 billion in Georgia. Even at the height of COVID, 234 feature films, television productions, commercials, and music videos were made in Georgia — a huge increase from 2018 when 34 major films and 33 independent films called the Peach State home.

To support Great Point Studios and the ever-growing industry in the area, PHYGITAL FX is opening a warehouse in Douglas County, which will open around.
